ATLAS : L’Inedite 3

Mathilde Vizet

With ATLAS, third image of the series l’Inedite, Mathilde Vizet tells us about her activity as an illustrator and riso printer.

At night, the light is most beautiful. When the Atlas Mountains turn into a palette of colors ranging from red to pink. The rocky slopes form only intersecting lines, which then disappear and reappear. Atlas is the first image of an ongoing series depicting the arid and irregular relief of the Moroccan massif. My desire to draw always starts from a territory, a memory that I like to be able to place on a map. To locate it, to identify it. Once this geographic space is determined, I look for framing and atmospheres in my photographs, and then I start drawing. I can spend hours tracing my lines on paper. The coloring, on the other hand, is very impulsive. I then refine my palette according to the printing process. As a printer, my profession demands a certain level of precision in the colorimetry of my visuals, which I adjust until the last moment.
