L'inédite 04 - Le jeune homme de Catane (Camille Deschiens)
Camille Deschiens
L’Inédite is a poster series inviting different artists to create a personal image in resonance with their current practice, working process, or simply their present concerns.
In Sicily, I saw all kinds of sculptures of men—statues depicting gods, men brimming with power, chests thrust forward and muscles pronounced. Beside these strong figures, women are often shown pleading, imploring, or coquettish. Sculpture—and art in general—is everywhere in Italy, in Sicily as well: in churches, in gardens, in schools.
In Catania, I passed by the entrance of a university and came across this boy, who seemed to be hiding—fragile, perhaps embarrassed, certainly vulnerable. He felt different, and I felt the urge to take him in my arms.
